While we normally see a high pressure area over the southwest and west U.S. in mid summer...this years has started early and has been strong.

Today should be about like yesterday.  The high pressure begins to get stronger Friday and the weekend through early next week look like more record or near record temperatures.  The high will weaken a little the last half of next week.  Winds will be relatively light becoming south to southwest in the afternoons.

  1. How this high pressure relate to the cold temperature the rest of US is experiencing ?
true that we are having heat wave , but looks like the rest of the country if freezing ... in july . isn't this an anomaly also ? thanks

  2. The high has been over the west for quite a while. When the high was over the Pacific Northwest it dumped colder air into the eastern U.S.
