This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.
We are still caught between a low pressure area off the coast trying to move east and a strong high pressure area to our east trying to push back to the west. The low sends bands of clouds eastward and the high dissipates them as they try to move inland. Today through Monday the north coast, Trinity, and western Siskiyou counties will see periods of clouds with a chance of a light shower. The Sierras from Mt Lassen southward will be sunny with above normal temperatures. The areas in between (Redding) will see a few clouds at times with near normal temperatures. Gusty southwest winds will occur in the afternoon.
Tuesday the high wins and the low is forced northeastward. There will be some clouds along the Oregon border, but sunny elsewhere. Temperatures will be above normal and gusty north winds will move into the area in the afternoon and evening.
Wednesday through the weekend the strong high pressure area will be over the west (see map below). The inland areas of Northern California will be sunny and hot. Temperatures in the north end of the valley will be between 105 and 110 by Friday. Gusty north winds will occur in the north valley and surrounding foothills Wednesday through midday Friday.
