Weather Discussion for Wednesday Feb. 24, 2021

Normal high/ low temperatures for Feb 22 -March 1  (high/low) Redding 61/41, Chico 62/39, Quincy 53/26, Chester 47/25, Susanville 49/27, Grass Valley 56/36, Weaverville 56/30, Mt. Shasta 49/28, Yreka 53/28, Alturas 47/23

This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

High pressure continues off the coast with low pressure areas moving over it and then dropping southeastward in the Great Basin.  Not much change in this weather pattern is expected through Sunday.  The north state will be mostly clear with continue above normal temperatures.  Periods of gusty north winds will occur.

Sunday evening a low pressure area will move over the ridge.  However, instead of heading toward the Great Basin, it will cutoff or break away from the jetstream and drop southward.  This low will become a closed low pressure area well off the coast (see map below).  While the models don't agree on the forecast position of the low, none of them have it closer than it is shown on the map below.   This is too far west to being an precipitation to Northern California.  Monday through Wednesday of next week will be sunny.  Temperatures will cool a little but still be above normal.  Winds will be relatively light.
