This morning's satellite picture (below) shows a weak high pressure ridge off the coast with a low pressure area and frontal system out in the Pacific. The front is moving eastward and will weakened but should move through our area Thursday afternoon and Friday. Today will be sunny with above normal temperatures and light to moderate north winds. Clouds will begin to increase Thursday with light rain over Northern California Thursday afternoon and night. Snow levels will be near 5000 feet. There will be scattered showers over the foothills and mountains Friday with isolated showers in the north end of the valley. Snow levels will remain near 5000 feet.
Skies will be clearing Saturday afternoon as high pressure rebuilds just off the coast (see map below). The high will stay there through Tuesday and we will see sunny skies with above normal temperatures. The high will shift back to the west Wednesday and this will allow a cold low pressure area to drop southward from Canada into Nevada. This will cool our weather down and may trigger a few snow flurries over the mountains north and east of the valley.

ReplyDeleteHi Old Forecaster,
ReplyDeleteTom Ainsworth enjoying your blog in retirement from Juneau AK these days. Cheers.
Tom...good to hear from you. Hope you are staying safe. Talked to John a few months ago and they are doing well. The boys are now spread across the U.S.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear. Is John still in RDD? Sue and I are well but looking forward to traveling again.
