Weather Discussion for Saturday Dec. 19, 2020

 Normal high/ low temperatures for Dec 14-Dec 21  (high/low) Redding 53/36, Chico 54/35, Quincy 45/24, Chester 41/21, Susanville 41/21, Grass Valley 52/31, Weaverville 46/29, Mt. Shasta 41/25, Yreka 44/25, Alturas 42/18

This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

High pressure is off the coast and a low pressure area and frontal system are moving into the Pacific Northwest (see satellite picture below).  Today and Sunday will be sunny with daytime temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal.  Winds will be light.  

Monday a low pressure trough will move into the Pacific Northwest.  However, the southern end will brush Northern California (see map below).  This system will bring partly cloudy skies to the north state with a few light showers over the areas north and east of the valley.  Snow levels will be near 4000 feet.  

Skies will be clearing early Tuesday with mostly clear skies through Thursday.  Daytime temperatures will continue above normal.  Gusty north winds will occur late Tuesday through early Thursday.  

Friday a low pressure trough and frontal system will bring light rain to the north state with snow levels 3500 to 4500 feet.  there will be a break Saturday and then another storm could bring rain to the area Sunday.
