This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring

The high pressure ridge is over the west.  Today through Wednesday we wil see smoky skies with daytime temperatures a few degrees above normal.  During the afternoons south and southwest winds will increase with the strongest winds over Lassen and Modoc counties.

Late Wednesday the high will weaken and shift east as a low pressure trough moves toward the Pacific Northwest.  This trough will move through the Pacific Northwest Thursday and early Friday (see map below).  We will see a few clouds from this system with light rain or showers over the north coast and northwest corner of the state.  Temperatures will cool to a few degrees below normal and gusty southwest to northwest winds will occur Thursday.

The weekend and early next week high pressure will be over our area. The north state will return to clear/smoky skies with slightly above normal temperatures.

  1. And thus it appears as if the moisture will remain north. Daniel Swain's take.
