This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring

This morning's satellite picture (below) shows the closed or cut-off low pressure area off the coast and dropping southward.  The low will move inland over Southern California late Friday.  This is a weak system without much moisture.  We will see a few clouds at times from this low today through Friday.  Thursday and Friday there could be some isolated afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms over the Sierras from Mt lassen southward.  Temperatures will continue above normal.  Gusty north winds will occur in some areas Thursday.

Friday and Saturday look partly to mostly sunny with afternoon and evening clouds over the mountains.  Temperatures will be slightly above normal with light winds.

Sunday the jetstream will begin split and break under the high pressure ridge that is off the coast (see map below).  The weaker southern branch of the jetstream will push a low pressure area toward Northern California late Sunday and Monday.  This system will bring scattered light showers to the north state Monday.

Another low pressure area could break under the high and reach the coast Wednesday and Thursday.
