This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring

High pressure is just off the west coast.  Today and Sunday the valley will be mostly sunny.  There will be some afternoon clouds over the higher elevations with isolated showers or thunderstorms along and east of the Sierra Cascade Crest.  Temperatures will be a few degrees above normal.  Winds will be light today with increasing north winds Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday the north state will be sunny.  Temperatures will continue above normal.  Locally gusty north winds will occur Monday and Tuesday.

Things begin to get complicated by midweek.  Tuesday a weak low pressure area will break off the jetstream and form a closed or "cutoff" low pressure area which will be nearing the Northern California coast late Wednesday (see map below).  Since these lows do not have a strong steering wind, they tend to move slowly and erratically.   At this time it looks like this low will move very very slowly eastward and will affect our weather through late Friday or early Saturday.  During this time we will see partly sunny to partly cloudy conditions with showers or thunderstorms mainly over the foothills and mountains with isolated activity possible in the valley.  Temperatures will be be near normal.
