Clouds will begin increasing later today as the low pressure area now entering Western Canada drops southeastward toward the Great Basin. This system will bring clouds to Northern California later today and Sunday with showers over the higher elevations Sunday. The main affect of this system will be colder temperatures. Today we will have temperatures several degrees above normal with several degrees below normal on Sunday. Freezing temperatures will occur in some part of the north valley Monday morning. Gusty north winds will move into the area Sunday. Skies will be clearing late Sunday.
Monday through Saturday high pressure will be along and over the west coast (see map below). The north state will have mostly clear skies. Temperatures will be back above normal by midweek. The gusty north winds will continue until Tuesday afternoon.
Longer range weather models show the high pressure ridge along or over the coast through mid February.
