The high pressure ridge is weakening and moving eastward as frontal systems approach the coast.  The first system will move through tonight and Thursday.  This front will bring light rain or showers to the foothills and mountains with a chance of a light shower in the valley.  Late Thursday and Friday we will see partly sunny to partly cloudy skies with below normal temperatures.  Then late Friday and Saturday the next system moves through.  This will also be a weak system with the precipitation mostly over the higher elevations with a light shower possible in the valley.

Sunday high pressure begins to build along and over the west coast.   A strong high pressure ridge will be over the west coast next week (see map below).   The north state will have clear skies with temperatures 8 to 12 degrees above normal the last half of next week.   Gusty north winds will occur Sunday and early Monday with light winds the rest of the week.

High pressure is over the west but is weakening.  Today and Tuesday Northern California will be partly to mostly sunny with a few mid and high clouds.  Temperatures will be a few degrees above normal and winds will be light.

The high breaks down Wednesday and late Wednesday and Thursday a low pressure trough and frontal system will move through the area (see map below).  This system will bring light rain or showers to the higher elevations with the chance of a light shower in the valley.  Increasing south to southwest winds will precede the front.  Late Friday and Saturday another trough will brush the north state.  Once again it looks like precipitation will be light and mostly over the higher elevations.

Late Sunday high pressure rebuilds along and over the west coast.   This should make next week sunny with above normal temperatures.   Gusty north winds will occur Sunday and Monday.

This morning's satellite picture (below) shows a frontal system approaching the coast and being weakened by the high pressure area that is still over the western U.S.  We will see a few high clouds from this system later today and Sunday.  Temperatures today and Sunday will be a little above normal and winds will be light. Monday and Tuesday we will continue mostly clear with normal or slightly above normal temperatures and light winds.

Wednesday the high pressure ridge weakens and the jetstream will drop southward.  This will allow a low pressure trough and frontal system to pass through the north state late Wednesday and Thursday (see map below)  with another system on Friday.  Neither of these systems are very strong but they will bring light rain or showers to the higher elevations with the chance of a light shower in the north end of the valley.  Moderate south to southwest winds will precede these systems.

High pressure rebuilds off the coast late Friday and next weekend looks sunny and mild.
