The low pressure area over the Pacific Northwest continues to drop southward.   Late yesterday afternoon a portion of this low moved over Northern California.   Conditions were just right for severe thunderstorms to form.   The Redding area had large... over 1 1/2" hail and tornadoes.   The clouds looked like what you would see in the midwest.

The low will move across Northern California late today and Sunday and should bring showers and thunderstorms to all of the north state.   The low will be east of the area by early Monday and most of the showers will have ended.

Tuesday through next weekend we will have a high pressure ridge off the coast (see map below).   The valley will be mostly sunny but there will continue to afternoon and evening cumulus clouds and a few isolated thunderstorms over the mountains.
