Weather Discussion for Monday September 3, 2018

Normal high/ low temperatures for Sept 3-Sept 10  (high/low) Redding 94/59, Chico 92/56, Quincy 84/38, Chester 81/40, Susanville 81/45, Grass Valley 84/53, Weaverville 89/43, Mt. Shasta 81/45, Yreka 85/46, Alturas 82/37

This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

First issue the return of smoke into the Redding area.  The past few days there have been light north winds and this as pushed smoke from the Hirz Fire into the Redding area.   The smoke will persist today with some afternoon improvement and then return tonight.   The good news is Tuesday through the end of the week the winds will shift back to the south which should hold most of the smoke to the north.

HIgh pressure is over California and will hold there for the next week.  The high will weaken a little the last half of the week as a low pressure trough pushes into Canada (see map below).  The next week looks mostly clear with temperatures 4 to 8 degrees above normal today and Tuesday and then a few degrees cooler the last half of the week.  As noted above winds will shift back to the south late Tuesday.
