This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.
A weak low pressure trough and frontal system moved through late yesterday. A slightly stronger system will move across the north state tonight and early Thursday. We will see a few clouds later today through midday Thursday with isolated showers and thunderstorms over the north coast, Trinity, Siskiyou, the higher elevations of Shasta, Modoc, and Lassen counties. Temperatures across the north state will be a little cooler today with afternoon south to southwest winds. Thursday skies will be clearing but a cooler airmass will over the area and temperatures will be 4 to 8 degrees below normal.
Friday through most of next week we will be under a weather pattern like the one shown on the map below. High pressure will be along the coast with the jetstream to our north. The inland areas of the north state will be mostly clear. Temperatures will be warming and by the weekend will be about 10 degrees above normal. Winds will be light except for gusty north winds Sunday and Monday.
