This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.
Another low pressure trough is along the coast. This system will move across Northern California later today and Thursday. Moderate to heavy precipitation is expected this afternoon and tonight with showers Thursday. Snow levels this morning are 4000 to 5000 feet north and 6000 feet south. Snow levels will rise by this evening to above 6000 feet and then drop in the north to 4000 to 5000 feet by midday Thursday. Gusty south winds will occur over the higher elevations today.
Friday and Saturday the north state will have partly to mostly sunny skies with near normal temperatures and light winds.
Clouds will begin increasing Sunday as the next low pressure trough approaches the coast (see map below). This will be a warmer and wetter system with high snow levels. Precipitation will start late Sunday and continue through Tuesday afternoon. The problem is that the models are not consistent on the storm's track. One run puts is right over Northern California and then the next takes just to our north.
Wednesday through Friday look mostly clear as high pressure will be over our area.
