The high pressure ridge continues over the western U.S. and will get stronger through midweek (see map below). Temperatures will be rising, with the hottest days Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperature records will be broken in many areas during this hot spell, with some north valley areas around or just above the 115 degree mark by Tuesday.
There will be some afternoon cumulus clouds with a chance of isolated thunderstorms east of the Sierra Cascade Crest this afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
Temperatures will start to cool starting Thursday as the high pressure area weakens. It also looks like sub tropical moisture will be pulled northward and this will result in an increase in mountain thunderstorms Thursday through Saturday.
