This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

High pressure is still over the west coast but is beginning to move eastward.   Today we will have sunny skies with some afternoon clouds over the mountains.   Temperatures will be a little warmer than yesterday.

A fairly significant change in the weather will begin Thursday as a low pressure trough deepens along the west coast. (see Map 1).   This trough will continue to stretch southward along the coast and by the weekend will split with a low pressure area over Southern California (see Map 2).   Thursday temperatures will begin to cool and there will be afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the mountains with a slight chance in the Redding area.  Friday and Saturday we will continue to see showers and thunderstorms over the foothills and mountains with a slight chance in the north end of the valley.   Sunday the low will be south or our area and the only chance of showers and thunderstorms will be over the Sierras from Mt Lassen southward.

Monday and Tuesday sunny skies will return with normal or slightly above normal temperatures.   The models are in good agreement that a stronger low pressure trough will be along the coast by next Wednesday and this should make the end of next week cool and wet.
