Weather Discussion for Saturday March 18, 2017

Normal high and low temperatures for March 13-March 20 (high/low)...Redding 67/44, Chico 67/41, Quincy 59/29, Chester 53/25, Susanville 55/29, Grass Valley 59/37, Weaverville 61/31, Mt. Shasta 57/32, Yreka 58/30, Alturas 54/25

This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

A weak low pressure trough and frontal system is now moving across Northern California.  This system will bring periods of rain or showers to our area today.  Snow levels will be 6000 feet or higher.  Sunday we will have partly cloudy skies with afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms. 

A series of frontal system will move through the area Monday through Wednesday.  These systems will bring light to moderate precipitation to the north state.  Snow levels will lower to 4500 to 5500 feet by Tuesday evening.

Thursday we will have break with partly cloudy to partly sunny skies with a few isolated mountain showers.  Friday a stronger low pressure trough will be along the coast. (see map below).  This system will move slowly eastward.  We will have moderate to heavy rain.  Snow levels will be 4000 to 5000 feet.  Gusty south winds will occur late Friday and Saturday.   Sunday the trough will be moving east and the precipitation will turn to showers.
