This blog will be issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning and updated if the weather is changing or critical or interesting weather events are occurring.

This week the blog will be updated on Friday Feb 17th, instead of Saturday.

Ref question yesterday....hard to compare years.   Probably '55, '64, and the 97/98 el nino year.

A frontal system is approaching the coast and will spread precipitation slowly eastward.  Moderate to heavy rain is expected over Northern California tonight and early Thursday with snow levels 5000 to 6000 feet north and a little higher south.  Gusty south winds will occur later today and tonight.   The precipitation will turn to showers Thursday morning and end by Thursday evening.

The next storm system will take a more southern track and move across Southern California late Friday and Saturday.   Northern California will get rain from this system Friday afternoon through early Saturday.  Snow levels will be 4500 to 5500 feet.  The precipitation will taper off Saturday morning and end by afternoon.

There will be a brief break late Saturday and early Sunday and then another low pressure trough and frontal system will move across Sunday afternoon and Monday (see map below) and will be followed by another system Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Sunday/Monday storm looks like it will bring moderate to heavy rain with snow levels 3500 to 4500 feet.   The Tuesday/Wednesday storm won't be as wet but will be colder.
